Biography
Uta Klement is a professor of materials science with a focus on electron microscopy and department of materials and manufacturing. She also leads the group Yt and microstructure technology. In her research, particular attention is focused on the development and characterization of different types of nanocrystalline and sub-microcrystalline materials for functional applications. Various types of coatings and energy absorbing materials produced by electroplating, thermal spraying and mechanical alloy are studied and optimized with regard to phase formation and phase distribution, texture, thermal stability, adhesion, etc. Also superalloys, titanium and advanced steel are examined for the purpose of understanding the properties of the material and to achieve robust and predictable manufacturing processes, lower energy and material consumption and reduced environmental impact.
